-I am homeschooled and it seems like the jokes don't stop. I am totally normal and completely socialized, and normally the people who find out I am homeschooled way after I meet them, still treat me normal. But I feel like if people don't get to know me before they find that out, they use a lot of judgement. Also even with people who I am really good friends with, sometimes make jokes. But they don't realize it hurts. I understand where they are coming from, I know some weird homeschoolers. But I am not one of them. I am a perfectly normal teenage girl.I know I should just ask them politely to stop with the jokes. But I really don't want them to know that it hurts me. I don't want to look weak, because I think thats what a lot of people think homeschoolers are. And I'm not one of those people that really wants to stand up for homeschooling, because I kinda wish I could go to school. But I am a equestrian athlete and I have to be homeschooled so I can spend mornings at the horse barn. Also I don't think my mom would let me go to school. I don't agree with people that think all homeschoolers are weird and un-socialized. I wish they would stop with judgement and jokes, because it's not fair to me, and other perfectly normally socialized homeschoolers.M, no matter who or what you are people will judge you. Know matter what you eat, wear, listen to, or dress like, people will judge you. And most of us are as guilty as the next in some way. The thing here is to not let the jokes get to you. Most people are shallow-minded idiots that don't know anything about the world around them so their only recourse is to make fun of it. You sound like a perfectly fine young girl with a smart head on her shoulders, don't stoop down -or be brought down to any ones level. You know who you are and what you stand for-stick to your guns. If the subject comes up--where do you go to school, start by saying your an athlete first and schooling comes second. If their not perplexed by this statement(most will be) then go on to say that you do your learning outside the boundaries of public education. Enjoy your youth, it'll be gone before you know it-then its off to college or work, don't let the feeble minds of others steal one moment of your time, thoughts or energy-its best used on the things you enjoy/want. Peace. This is a good lesson for you to learn right now. The ones that are harassing you are not worth knowing. There are punks every where in this society of ours. I know people in their 40's that are just as ignorant. One day you will grow up and do great things. Just don't be this shocked when you get older and find these kind of people in adulthood. The thumbs down guy is a great example of this.
If some one makes fun of you because your home schooled, you must be perfect because they dont have any thing else to make fun of you for. People are idiots and jokes are jokes. My best friend is home schooled and she has more friends than i do. Leave homeschoolers alone!!! LOL but good luck.
Remember that homeschoolers tend to be smarter than kids educated at public or private schools. Also remember that someday, you'll be the boss of the people making fun of you.
dont listen to them.... i wish i was homeschooled.....
You can't get them to stop.
There are always ignorant people; always judgemental people; and always jerks.
No need to justify your choices... enjoy homeschooling and learn to let cracks roll down your back.
When all else fails throw out some sarcasm. Like when they say homeschoolers are unsocialized, jokingly say, "oh, sure, because we all know public school kids are all well-adjusted, kind, friendly and happy-go-lucky. They're such a warm and welcoming group, I didn't feel worthy of being among them." They'll get the message.
Go to a school that isn't your home.
